Hoe owntown.lol werkt
Een kaart van Nederland met 342 gemeenten. Twee lagen: stemmen is gratis, baas worden kost geld.
Twee lagen
Stemmen is gratis en zonder account. Je stem kleurt de kaart en bepaalt de volgorde in het klassement.
Baas worden kost geld. Wie het hoogste bedrag betaalt, zet zijn logo, titel, omschrijving en link op die gemeente — tot iemand hem overneemt. Dat staat apart uitgelegd in Baas worden.
Baas van een plaats zijn is een speelse advertentieplek, geen officiële titel. Het geeft je geen enkele band met of zeggenschap over de echte gemeente.
Stemmen
- Gratis, geen account, geen e-mailadres.
- Eén stem per apparaat. Je stem staat op één gemeente tegelijk.
- Je kunt je stem verplaatsen naar een andere plaats, of intrekken door nog een keer op dezelfde plaats te stemmen.
- Per internetverbinding tellen we maximaal 5 stemmen.
Waarom vijf per verbinding?
Bij mobiel internet en bij veel providers delen duizenden klanten hetzelfde IP-adres (CGNAT). Zouden we één stem per IP toestaan, dan zou heel mobiel Nederland samen één stem hebben. Daarom tellen we per apparaat, met een plafond per verbinding: een huishouden mag, een botfarm niet.
Turnstile
Op het stemformulier zit Cloudflare Turnstile, een controle die geautomatiseerd stemmen tegengaat. Turnstile werkt zonder cookies en bouwt geen profiel op. Wat er precies aan gegevens bij komt kijken staat in de privacyverklaring.
De kaart
- Alle 342 gemeenten volgens de CBS-indeling van 2025.
- Gemeenten met een baas krijgen een logotegel; de rest een stip die donkerder wordt naarmate er meer op gestemd is.
- Staan twee tegels over elkaar heen, dan wint het hoogste bedrag en wordt de ander een stip tot je inzoomt.
Gemeenten fuseren
Wij houden een gemeente vast op zijn CBS-code, niet op zijn naam. Verandert een naam of gaat een gemeente op in een andere, dan blijft de plek op de kaart daaraan gekoppeld. Zo raakt een baas zijn plek niet kwijt door een herindeling.

Two layers
Voting is free and needs no account. Your vote colours the map and sets the order in the standings.
Becoming the boss costs money. Whoever pays the highest amount puts their logo, title, description and link on that municipality — until someone takes over. That is explained separately under Becoming a boss.
Being the boss of a place is a playful ad slot, not an official title. It gives you no connection to, or say over, the actual municipality.
Voting
- Free, no account, no email address.
- One vote per device. Your vote sits on one municipality at a time.
- You can move your vote to another place, or withdraw it by voting on the same place again.
- We count at most 5 votes per internet connection.
Why five per connection?
On mobile internet and at many providers, thousands of customers share one IP address (CGNAT). If we allowed one vote per IP, all of mobile Netherlands would share a single vote. So we count per device, with a ceiling per connection: a household is fine, a bot farm is not.
Turnstile
The vote form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that blocks automated voting. Turnstile works without cookies and builds no profile. Exactly what data is involved is set out in the privacy statement.
The map
- All 342 municipalities per the 2025 CBS classification.
- Municipalities with a boss get a logo tile; the rest get a dot that darkens the more votes it has.
- Where two tiles would overlap, the higher amount wins and the other becomes a dot until you zoom in.
Municipalities merge
We key a municipality on its CBS code, not its name. If a name changes or a municipality is absorbed into another, its spot on the map stays tied to that code. A boss does not lose their place to a reorganisation.
